3-A SSI's standards-modernization work is picking up speed. Ten Ad Hoc Working Groups are now active, and each is reviewing equipment-specific requirements against the 3-A Sanitary Standard for General Requirements (00-02). Those General Requirements set the baseline hygienic design criteria that every equipment standard builds on.
These five groups will revise four 3-A Sanitary Standards and one Accepted Practice:
The Disc-Type Valves (57-02) group has finished a proposed revision that brings the standard into line with the updated General Requirements. It is open for public comment through Nov. 16, 2026.
The review centers on five areas: rubber components beyond seals, plastic components beyond seals, radii exceptions, coil springs and product contact bearings. Spot something outside those five? Comments on any part of the proposd standard are welcome. Learn more about the proposal.

All 10 active working groups have open observer seats. Observers see technical discussions take shape long before a draft reaches public comment. They don't vote on drafts, but they may be asked to fill a voting seat if one opens. Along the way, they share field experience and connect with fabricators, processors, regulators and other experts.
