Shape the Future of Food Safety Equipment: Join Our Elite Standards Development Community

An Exclusive Opportunity to Influence Global Food Processing

The next generation of food processing equipment is being designed right now – and we need your expertise to ensure it meets the highest standards of safety, cleanability, and performance.

3-A SSI is actively recruiting select professionals to join our prestigious working groups as we continue our comprehensive standards revision initiative. To date 34 standards have been successfully upgraded to our “B Level” format and style criteria, and we're accelerating our efforts to modernize all 80+ 3-A Sanitary Standards and Accepted Practices.  When the format of a standard is revised to “B Level,” it incorporates the 3-A Sanitary Standard for General Requirements (“The GR.”) This updates the standard to our new more precise language and definitions, thus streamlining the standard.

Why This Matters to Your Career – and the Industry

This isn't just committee work. Working group members gain unprecedented insight and need to consider emerging equipment technologies and regulatory directions before they become industry-agreed standards. You'll be solving real-world challenges that affect food safety on a global scale while building relationships with the industry's most respected technical experts.

The competitive advantage is clear: Know what's coming before your competitors do. Influence decisions that will shape equipment design for years to come. Position yourself as a thought leader in hygienic design.

What We're Looking For

We need the perfect balance: food processors who understand operational realities, innovative equipment fabricators pushing technical boundaries, and regulatory professionals ensuring compliance excellence.

Experienced working group veterans: If you've participated before, we especially want you back to experience our transformed development process. Your familiarity with the old methods will give you unique insight into how much more efficient and effective our new approach has become.

New participants welcome: Fresh perspectives are equally valuable – we need your experienced eyes to challenge assumptions and spot opportunities our veteran committee members might miss.

We have several projects that are nearly complete and these projects offer a wonderful opportunity to dip your toe in the waters of standards development. Our trained staff will review each project and identify the requirements that are pending discussion for adoption.

Project B-22-08-A, Revision of 3-A Sanitary Standard for Silo-Type Storage Tanks for Milk and Milk Products, Number 22-08 seeks to provide resolution of comments following a Working Group ballot for a full draft revision including title and scope. This 3-A Sanitary Standard applies to the sanitary aspects of silo-type storage tanks, with or without provisions for heating and cooling, including vent, overflow, and CIP spray lines.  Product enters the inlet(s) and exits the outlet(s) of the silo-type tank used at dairy processing plants.  These standards are not intended to cover silo-type tanks used on dairy farms.

Project B-41-03-A, Revision of 3-A Sanitary Standard for Mechanical Conveyors for Dry Products, Number 41-03 seeks to provide a resolution of comments post Steering Committee review and balloting. This 3-A Sanitary Standard applies to the sanitary aspects of mechanical equipment used solely for conveying dry milk and dry milk unpackaged products not an integral part of the dryer, commencing with the point at which product enters the conveyor and ending at the point product is discharged from the conveyor. The types of conveyors include but are not limited to: Belt or band, multiple parallel bands, link chain, bucket, plate, vibratory, drag chain, auger/screw, and tabletop. This 3-A Sanitary Standard does not apply to pneumatic conveyors which are covered under 3-A Sanitary Standard, Number 39-.

An Inside Look: Your Standards Development Workshop

Before committing to a working group, join us for an exclusive 60-minute virtual orientation session where you'll discover:

• Why the "B Level" format and style allows for additional development of individual equipment standards development

• Real case studies from our 34 successfully upgraded standards include our work in the field of automation which references the GR. Both 3-A Sanitary Standard for Robot-based Automation Systems, 103-00 and Unitized Equipment for Automated Miling Installations, 102-00 are great examples of new standards created under our “B Level” format and style.

• Hear directly from State and Federal Authorities during the Interactive discussion of the 16 critical design questions each project will address driving modern equipment evaluation

• Direct Q&A with current working group officers conducting resolution of comments for final reporting responsibilities.

• Networking opportunities with potential collaborators

No cost. No obligation. Maximum insight.

The Commitment: Designed for Busy Professionals

Working groups operate on a 12-18 month cycle with built-in flexibility. Extended review periods and strategic pauses accommodate your schedule while ensuring thorough technical evaluation. Most members find the time investment pays dividends through expanded technical knowledge and industry connections.

Your Impact

Every component you evaluate, every design challenge you solve, every standard you help refine makes food processing safer worldwide. From dairy plants in Wisconsin to bottling and beverage facilities in Southeast Asia, equipment built to 3-A standards protects public health world-wide and enables safe food production.

The 16 critical evaluation criteria represent the cutting edge of hygienic design. Your input shapes how these technologies evolve.

Ready to Lead?

This is your invitation to join an exclusive community of technical leaders who don't just follow industry trends – they create them.
